Um, yeah. Where does my life go? I know there's something about guitar, a whole lot about WiiFit, and lately there's been a purple video camera. But ho-ly, March is flying.
And guess what happens in April?
Give up?
Kate Nova goes to Texas. Austin, to be precise.
It’s been the dream since circa 1996, when I first started listening to Janis Joplin and playing guitar. That’s when I began reading about the city whose bumper stickers exhort one to keep it weird, who deems itself “music capital of the world,” and who has fostered one of the richest musical heritages in North America.
No, I won’t make it in time for South by Southwest, but I will make it in time for a very chill Madeleine Peyroux show at the University of Texas, and then maybe some Mexican sunshine to follow.
‘Cause I’m going to Austin! And driving to Mexico! (Speeding past border towns which seem to have fallen into violent civil strife of late.)
This is the first warm weather vacation OF MY LIFE.
I am so excited I want to barf. But I won't. I'll just go home and play WiiFit and do laundry and maybe put new strings on my guitar. Because it deserves some new strings. And I wanna look good in a bikini.

Third time's the charm
Listening to “Weary Blues” as styled by Madeleine Peyroux, grateful for the sun so early in the morning.
I have made three bets since living in our fair city. I’m zero for two on the first, and the verdict is outstanding on the last.
The first bet was made mere hours after touching ground. I pledged I could get a sit-down with a certain politician within three months, and failed. I lost a bottle of hooch, but gained my best friend and soul twin from that encounter.
The second bet was also political, involving the territorial election. Looking back, I was betting from the heart and not the head, and so also lost. I think that one cost me $20 and some pride.
The third bet I made last night, during a musical soiree hosted at the s’Legion quiet lounge. While chatting with a Californian long cast upon the shores of Baffin Island, it dawned on me that he is perhaps the sole Californian living in the territory. I put $10 on it, and was promptly challenged to post it on my blog this morning.
Do you know of anyone from California living in Nunavut? If so, comment on it here and you will lose me $10.
(He obviously doesn’t count, so if your Californian also happens to play mandolin I still win.)

Those kids are just Too Country for the City
The adorable and talented Miz Daizy Lux and her handsome consort Jonny have just taken the courageous step of settling onto their very own farm.
They'll be documenting triumphs and tribulations as they work to establish their very own earth-friendly and organic Eden on their new blog, Too Country for the City.
I wish you guys tons of luck and love! I'm a wee bit envious...
